Speech Pathology
Speech pathologists assess and treat communication disorders, and work with people who experience difficulties swallowing food and drink safely, across the lifespan. At Okey Dokey, we work with children and adolescents who experience these difficulties.
Communication disorders are varied and may include difficulties with speaking, listening, understanding language, reading, writing, social skills, stuttering and using voice. Swallowing and feeding disorders are also varied and may include difficulties chewing and/or swallowing food or fluid, or children who have restricted eating habits.
A speech pathologist will work with a person, their family and support network to establish goals and provide intervention. At Okey Dokey our speech pathologists work with children and adolescents who have difficulty communicating because of developmental delays, Autism Spectrum Disorder, stroke, brain injuries, learning disability, intellectual disability, cerebral palsy and hearing loss, as well as other problems that can affect speech and language.
A speech pathologist can assist by using a range of intervention such as parent coaching and guidance, play therapy, individual 1:1 therapy and group programs.
