Our Social Interest Groups aim to provide children with an opportunity to connect with like-minded peers around a shared interest, have fun and build their social confidence.
These groups do not teach social skills or follow a curriculum. Instead, they provide a safe space for children to socialise, develop friendships, cooperate and collaborate with peers in games and activities, talk about their passions and interests and feel a sense of belonging, all with the support of Okey Dokey Clinicians.
Social Interest Groups will not be suitable for all children, as those attending require a minimum level of social understanding and communication ability to benefit from being part of the program.
To attend a group, your child must be able to consistently:
- use phrases or sentences to communicate using spoken words or an AAC device
- follow adult directions
In addition, your child must have an interest in the group activities for the group they attend. For example, please do not register a child to attend the Minecraft Group if they have no interest in Minecraft. They will not enjoy attending and will not benefit from the group experience.
If you proceed with a booking, you are acknowledging that your child meets the group requirements as detailed above.
Please note: If you register your child for a group but they are found to not meet the above requirements, their registration may be cancelled.
All groups are $350 and conducted over 3 days during week 1 of the Victorian school holidays. If a particular group doesn’t appear on the form after selecting your child’s grade level, it will be because it is sold out.
